Spirited Discussion About Life in Cabarrus County, North Carolina

GAME OVER

March 31st, 2006 by Justin Thibault · 1 Comment

Update: The majority of comments from the single author using the different psuedonyms have been permanently deleted.

I recently got this comment from a regular reader of my blog:

Justin;
It is a shame that your blogsite, which was at one time refreshing and informative, has devolved into a venue for nutcases and kooks. This has become the high tech version of writing on the bathroom wall. I know it is hard for you to control, but unfortunately you have lost a reader because of it.

I feel badly about this, and I apologize to this reader for the state of things.

That being said, I’d like to put some things in perspective for everyone reading this blog about the comments that have been showing up over the past couple of months.

The comments from debbielana, carolynwatkins, smellensmith, mellensmith, haroldwaford, jubawontlast, justaskRP, beanieweanielover, mtpleasantchik, janefondaofconcord, marciefromsaluda, mrticklesparks, and a number of “Anonymous” commenters come from one computer. That means they come from one author.

I noticed this trend a while back and started tracking it. The past two months have lead to a great number of statistics. First, during the past two months, this individual has visited 258 times. That’s an average of nearly 5 visits a day. Just last week, they visited this site a dozen different times throughout the entire day. The visits are throughout the work day and during the evenings. This person, not counting the time spent writing comments (that’s handled in another domain) has spent nearly 40 hours in the past two months in visits to this website.

Think about that. One individual spends the better part of their waking hours writing to someone else’s blog under a dozen different pseudonyms. I know this through Sitemeter’s IP address tracking. It’s really quite amazing.

So, I did a little investigating and through some tracking left behind in e-mails to several individuals - I’ve figured out who the actual individual is. Now, I’m not going to get myself involved in a major kerfuffle by telling the world who it is. However, many of the people they made disparaging remarks about are aware of the identity of this individual.

This blog will no longer publish the remarks of this individual. Over the month of April, I will permanently delete each and every last comment that I believe belongs to them. In addition to that, I will be moderating comments. I didn’t want it to come to that; but I will be doing that. This individual has been posting more material to my blog than I do; and I’m sure that they will be upset to find so much of their work going to the great data dump in the sky.

Needless to say, I’m worried about the sorry state of this person’s soul and their overall mental health. I strongly urge you to consider counseling; because the way that you have spent the last few months is downright pathetic.

To the rest of my readers, I will spend the month of April doing my best to make this blog a worthwhile place to visit. Again, I apologize for some of the changes; but I hope that it’ll all work out for the best.
