This week, I’ve gotten responses from the County Commission Candidates and The District Attorney Candidates. Go to Cabarrus Election Challenge for the full responses. Here are some excerpts and links to each of the candidates responses.
District Attorney
Roxann Vaneekhoven
I am running because I have worked in the D.A.’s Office for 10 years and I believe that victims deserve a District Attorney who is experienced, tough on crime, and passionate about justice.
To address your questions in order, I’m running because, unlike my opponent, I’m IN the courtrooms DAILY. I know what challenges we all face as we participate in the judicial process.
County Commission
The question posed to the County Commission Candidates was this: Growth has become a long-term reality in Cabarrus County. There is an inventory of homes that are permitted to be built and new requests for permits come in every month. What will you do, as a Commissioner, to control growth? What do you think of the current Adequate Public Facilities Ordinance that is being handled by the Commission?
Here are excerpts and links to the responses:
To address growth, we must have more commercial growth. The Economic Development Commission hasn’t made any significant progress toward this end. I hope their record in the coming year is better. CEO John Cox has been traveling all over the world looking for prospects…
Growth in our county is inevitable. But the rate of residential growth and the type of growth can be managed. While the current Adequate Facilities Ordinance on the Commissioner’s desks is not perfect, it is important that it be passed sooner than later…
We need to get back to balancing our residential, commercial and industrial growth. Cabarrus County must encourage business growth that will have low impact on our schools and water…
Proper planning and zoning of undeveloped property with an
appropriate mix of both commercial and residential development. We must
do this to make sure that we don’t over burden our schools and other
essential services…
