Spirited Discussion About Life in Cabarrus County, North Carolina

Is 2006 the Summer of Love?

June 29th, 2006 by Justin Thibault · No Comments

Things have been slow in the local news and busy in my life; but I had a brief observation that I wanted to share with y’all.

First, there’s the whole Rush with Viagra thing. Which I don’t want to expond on; because it’s Rush and Viagra.

Second, the strangest time in an election cycle is the first inklings of the presidential hopefuls going public and trying to differentiate themselves as the lesser of so many other evils. Candidates usually do strange things; but, for a major party candidate, this is the strangest:

Because he was the first Democrat to step up and say publicly last year that he’s exploring running for president, we can assume that Sen. Joe Biden (D-Del.) is plenty interested in the office.

But like most other men, apparently there are things that interest him more.

Speaking to a group of 130 twenty- and thirty-something supporters of his leadership PAC last Thursday, Biden indicated that while he thinks he could be an effective chief executive, as far as the job itself goes, he could take it or leave it.

“I’d rather be at home making love to my wife while my children are asleep,” he said.

Biden’s PAC spokeman, Larry Rosky, said the line illustrates that “this is not an egostistical pursuit for him” and that he is “frankly totally in love with his wife.”

One of my favorite bloggers - Sister Toldjah - has some interesting thoughts on that

It reminds me of one of the responses of a local candidate in the 2005 Concord, NC Mayoral election and an old post of mine “C’mon Baby Light My Fire” - enjoy:

I opened up the Cabarrus Neighbors today and was checking out the candidate profiles when I came across James Hurley Klontz. Here was his last book read:

Light Her Fire! How to Ignite Passion, Joy, and Excitement in the Women You Love by Ellen Kreidmen

(Yes, no typo, that’s “WomEn”)

I’ll leave you, dear reader, with this one thought. Is this his secret weapon in a door-to-door campaign strategy?
