The Truth v. Harold Smith X: Formidable Opponent

July 2nd, 2006 by Justin Thibault · No Comments

For a time, I’ve been trying to consider the other side of the coin. Could it be that Coy, Harold, and others are right and I’m dead wrong? I’m willing to consider it (and have). However, I think the problem is not so much a difference of philosophy; but one of one group of people trying to stick to some principles and others trying to score some votes.

Allow me to demonstrate.

Fans of the Colbert Report should be familiar with the Formidable Opponent segment of the show where Steven Colbert debates his only equal - himself. It seems as though Harold decided to follow that model.

Here’s a debate Harold Smith had with himself over school debt.

Enjoy!

Point: Harold Smith - November 11, 2004 - “Debt Free Brings Liberty

Liberty is a precious freedom. One barrier to personal liberty is enormous debt. 60 Minutes featured a segment this past Sunday night on the enormous debt burdens of Americans. Debt can rob you of your personal liberty. I have experienced debt burdens and I have experienced being debt free. Being debt free brings great liberty. It is amazing to me that some of our elected officials will complain about using a couple million dollars out of savings to balance the budget, but will borrow $98 million at a “drop of the hat”. With the bond referendum Cabarrus County will have increased debt to $277 million and the City of Kannapolis has maxed out their credit limit with a debt of $60 million. It is amazing. It’s like they believe they will never have to pay it back. If anyone wants to know how to be debt free, please email me.

Counter Point: Harold Smith - April 28, 2006: “Explosive Property Taxes”

Most Americans would agree that debt to build a home is a good thing. Isn’t the same true for schools.

Heh.
