The Charlotte Observer ran an informative article today on the North Carolina Research Campus and a Board of Commissioners’ meeting on Thursday.
For the first time, Cabarrus County officials plan Thursday to openly discuss the county’s role in the development of the North Carolina Research Campus in Kannapolis.
Here’s something interesting:
In one message, officials outlined changes to the development that have cut the estimated property tax the project would generate by $38.8 million.
One such change, they said, came about because they miscalculated the tax revenues to be generated by the Core Lab, the largest building on campus and the first to be constructed.
Why? A portion of the building is going to be owned by a nonprofit foundation, which means that part is not taxable.
