History is made by those who show up - Benjamin Disraeli
Well, in the case of the Harrisburg Town Council: it’s made by those who don’t show up.
What Went Down
According to an article in Wednesday’s Independent Tribune, Harrisburg Council Members Phil Cowherd, Michael Hart and Steve Sciascia were present at the Harrisburg Town Hall before the [...]

Better Blogs VIII: The Village Scribe Online
November 16th, 2006 · 1 Comment
Local current event blogs are few and far between - especially in this area. In Cabarrus County, we have Harold Smith and me.
That’s it and that’s sad.
So, I got an e-mail the other day from the author of The Village Scribe Online. A Union County blog. Reading his blog is a window to some political [...]

This may shock you; but Cabarrus County doesn’t have a contract to build the Jail in Downtown Concord even though they’ve started demolition work and are planning to buy steel for it.
If you believe that, please e-mail me - I’ve got a very interesting opportunity on a mountain cabin in Kansas. Here’s what he had [...]

Veteran’s Day Special - Better Blogs VII: Lightning From The Sky
November 11th, 2006 · 2 Comments
I figured for Veteran’s Day, I would do something I’d been meaning to do for a while. I’ve been meaning to feature this blog on Better Blogs for quite some time; but the election and everything else got in the way.
Lightning From The Sky is the blog of Marine Corps Captain Charlie Benbow. Charlie is [...]

The Truth v. Harold Smith XV: Why, Why, Why Not?

I was going to get the exact numbers; but left my copy of the Concord Standard at work. Anyhow, the Jay White campaign, according to the paper, spent about $54,000. But Jay White himself didn’t spend $54,000, as Harold claimed. Check this out.
According to campaign reports, Jay White has already spent $54,000 in his campaign [...]

2006 Cabarrus County Election Day Followup
November 8th, 2006 · Comments Off
The results in Cabarrus County weren’t too shocking. The Commissioners race followed the 2002 pattern - the Moderates lead while the Cabarrus Taxpayers’ Association candidates came in behind them. The CTA candidates get enough votes to win; but not enough to declare a mandate…even though they will.
I got to meet a lot of new folks [...]

It’s cold and wet out here in Cabarrus County - bummer for whoever was hoping for a big turnout.
However, it’s no secret that many of us are people of faith and we usually make pretty faithful voters. Joe Carter at Evangelical Outpost has a Top 10 list of things which may affect voter turnout among [...]

Positive Messages

Many times our exposure to the press only brings out the negative. I’ll admit that I’m much more apt to post something when I’m motivated by negative feelings than positive ones. However, this ballot is full of people who want to make a difference locally and I’d like to share messages I’ve received over the [...]

Positive Messages: From Chairman Carruth - Vote for Jay, Grace, and The Republican Team
November 6th, 2006 · Comments Off
There has been a lot of press about Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners Chairman Bob Carruth maybe supporting a Democrat in lieu of Coy Privette. What he does in the ballot box is his business, just as what you do is yours. However, he’s working hard to put Republicans who’ll work towards a better Cabarrus [...]
