This is the fifth e-mail from Jay White

There are only a few days left until the election. As you are aware this year’s election is extremely important to our local government. We are voting to elect three commissioners to a board made up of five commissioners’ seats. We are electing a majority of board members who will be making decisions for or County over the next four years. When casting our vote, we need to decide what kind of leadership we want making decisions that will affect us.

In the past, voter turnout has been very low. Most people don’t think about local elections unless they are personally connected to a candidate or issue. However, this year we are all affected by the issues. The overcrowding of our schools, the out of control and unbalanced residential growth, the irresponsible stewardship of our county’s money, the increasing amount of non-voter approved debt is affecting us all.

If we don’t take the time to vote on Tuesday, we may end up with commissioners who spend more time fighting than solving the challenges we face. If we don’t take the time to vote on Tuesday, we may end up with commissioners who have no problem letting future generations pay for schools. If we don’t take the time to vote on Tuesday, we may end up with commissioners who continue to put this county further in debt. If we don’t take the time to vote on Tuesday, we may end up with commissioners who aren’t capable of leading us into the future.

Why should you vote for me? There are four reasons you should vote for me. I am able to provide positive leadership to the board - leadership that will guide us through the growth our county can expect to see over the next several years. You can trust that I will listen to the citizens before making decisions that affect our county. I have no personal agenda other than to make Cabarrus County a place my children want to live and work. I am dedicated to our children’s education, to keeping our taxes reasonable, and to balancing well planned residential growth with business and industrial growth. I will approach the position of county commissioner with common sense that seems to have been missing from county government.

We have real issues that need to be addressed for the future of our County. People playing politics for the sake of an election will not solve these problems and actions that focus on dividing people instead of uniting them will not help at all. As a county commissioner, I will be committed to putting people first and politics second. We already have too many people creating problems; I will be a problem solver.

Your vote on Tuesday is vital and could be the one vote that makes a difference in the kind of leadership we have in Cabarrus County . Edmund Burke warned, “All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.” Don’t sit back and do nothing. Take the time to vote on November 7th. Take the time to encourage others to vote.

I challenge you to encourage everyone you come in contact with this week to get out and vote on November 7th. Whether you are talking with co-workers, friends, or the person behind you in the checkout line, urge them to get out and vote. Let’s make this an election where the citizens are heard.

If you want to be a part of the excitement on Nov.7th and are able to work a shift at one of the polling precincts, please contact us. We need to stand behind Jay until the last vote is cast.

With your continued support, I know we can win on Nov. 7th.
