Local current event blogs are few and far between - especially in this area. In Cabarrus County, we have Harold Smith and me.
That’s it and that’s sad.
So, I got an e-mail the other day from the author of The Village Scribe Online. A Union County blog. Reading his blog is a window to some political possibilities in Cabarrus County.
First, developers seem to have a huge influence there. Their APO battle went on a bit longer than ours. Second, the Union County Democratic Party seems to be growing in strength - partly due to the first point - voters looking for an alternative from the developers. My fellow Cabarrus County Republicans should take note of that.
However, we should consider another possibility - dead folks on the ballot. A number of our candidates were advanced in years. If we can’t recruit some others for office, this scenario is a possibility:
Last Tuesday, the ‘late’ Sam Duncan, won the Soil and Water Conservation board seat.
Mr. Duncan’s death was unknown or not a concern to 12042 voters who marked the ballot in his favor. Voters also suported two school board candidates who had withdrawn from the race — garnering 11% of the ballots cast in one district race and 17% in another.
Enough votes to swing either race.
