The Friday Five II

For this week’s Friday Five, I wanted to feature recent posts from The Better Blogs - the collection of great blogs that I share with y’all from time to time.

5. Admittedly, I wanted to keep things kind of light with “The Friday Five”; but because many of us have friends and family in the Middle East - it’s good to have an appreciation of what we’re up against.  I was introduced to the video (the one at the top of this post) by The Evangelical Outpost article that completely explains it.  Briefly, the little girl in the video watches her mother go out to be a suicide bomber and decides that she will follow in Mom’s footsteps.  The video is the most chilling thing I can recall ever seeing.

4. Mr. McCrory goes to Raleigh.  It’s interesting to see the reception the Republican mayor of the largest city in North Carolina he got from the Democrat Governor and the indifference from the Charlotte Observer.

3.  John Hood doesn’t like the NCRC or Senator Hartsell’s new bill for venture capital.  Of course, John Hood is critical of computers in public schools and proactive growth policies.  That doesn’t mean he’s wrong though.

2. Tara Servatius tells us of doctors that kill and the NC State Licensing Boards that do nothing about it. This is almost as chilling as the video because this isn’t a world away and the folks on the board are not supposed to be nuts - they are appointed by the Governor.

1.  Guy Kawasaki has posted a lot of really great stuff recently; but the article that might be most pertinent is one that he wrote some time ago (June 2006).  “How to Kick Silicon Valley’s Butt” is an important read for anyone who wants a taste of the North Carolina Research Campus will do for the future of this area and what local leaders have to do (and not do) to leverage its success.
