First off, I haven’t had the opportunity to mention this; but my wife took our son, Palmer (you can see a boatload of pictures here), to Karen Goforth’s place (www.irresistibleportraits.com) in Kannpolis for some pictures with bunnies. Karen, as always, did a great job. What was interesting about this shoot is that the bunny jumped up on Palmer’s shoulder. Palmer remained cool as a cucumber and voila - this month’s Irresistible Portraits’ Picture of the Month.
Other than that, I’ve got nothing substiantial for you today. However, if you’d like, you can answer this question to get this party started: My son will be attending one of the new schools that was built by the 2004 bond - so he’s covered; but what about the next 10 years? What is, in your opinion, the best way to handle school financing over the next 10 years?
We’ve got a lot of challenges, and the bunny didn’t give him much of an answer when he asked (Palmer is quite curious already)
It would be great to hear from some of our officials, managers, etc.; but nobody is running for anything - so I’m not expecting too much :-).
If you don’t care for that: you can join some of the on-going discussions - there are three this week:
- The duplicity of www.goharoldsmith.com - click here
- Bob Carruth’s Proposal for the County’s participation in the NCRC TIF - click here
- Whether an extra 10 cents on the $100 valuation should be charged to cover school financing in lieu of any other solution - click here

Let’s pretend for a moment the NCRC doesn’t exist.
The growth of Charlotte, and the expense of living there, makes moving to the suburbs highly attractive.
I know it’s not a popular thing to say, but Cabarrus should be considered a suburb of Charlotte. The explosion of development at Speedway Blvd. has made the distance to Concord much shorter.
If the growth of residential is outpacing school funding, then that’s where we must focus.
Residential growth should be coupled to school funding somehow.
But what about penalizing people with no children? I’m one of them. Tough. We’re taxed for all kinds of things we perceivably receive no benefit from.
And maybe there are innovative ways to lower school costs.
There were at least two “big box” stores standing vacant in recent years. Why can’t an abandoned big box be turned into a school?
I strongly agree with the separation of church and state, but there are lots of large churches which sit empty all week long…
Trailers at schools are disgusting, but their modularity is interesting. Modern modules are available, which are functional AND attractive. Prefab too.
Smaller schools are highly attractive…

Cute bunny pics, and he is a handsome young man but this girl did my granddaughter on letters of her name…nice..samples are in the gallery named collages. Karen is good and always did my grandson, but I saw one of these at work and had to have one.
