
The local papers have been stating that the County could save money using Certificates of Participation (COPS) instead of using Tax-Increment Financing (TIF). What they aren’t telling you is that the savings don’t occur until the very end of the loan AND in the first ten years, the price for COPS is more than $11 million higher than TIF. Choosing COPs will significantly raise our taxes to fund this project (something TIF would not do) and endanger critical school needs. Support of this option is support for higher taxes and fewer schools - plain and simple.
The County Commission has two options: Take money out of David Murdock’s pocket to pay for this or take the money out of our pocket. I hope that common sense prevails over bureaucratic silliness.
