The Independent Tribune covered the highlights of last night’s meeting; and I figured I would link to some related articles.
Last year, I wrote the first two parts of a three-part series call “Appetite for Construction” that looked at development policy in Cabarrus County. For the third part, I was going to detail what could be done about it; but things were moving so fast in the County I had to postpone. Last night, the Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners started writing that third part by doubling the per lot fee.

You may have missed it; but at the very end of the Tribune article we find out that Rock Hill is competing with us for the Great Wolf water park resort. We caught some flak from the opponents of the Interbasin Transfer for trying to lure the water park as being wasteful with “their” water; but they have no problem if the water park is built within the Catawba Basin.

Top notch work on the IBT, I had not read that post. The Hickory outcry was hilarious to me as well but the common sense of them living up-stream was missed by much of the media.
Also, I loved how Coy grandstanded on raising the fee to 12,000 dollars when it was he and his buddies who put us so far behind in the first place.
I seem to remember you saying we needed to double this fee in a post from a while back.
Indeed, you should be called Carnac the Magnificent!

That was number one on my list. Number 2: the County adopting the UDO would have an even better levelling effect on the development. At a meeting - very soon - they should adopt a 6 month moratorium on any new residential construction that isn’t already in a UDO area (Concord, Kannapoils, etc.) and work with the cities to make adjustments to the UDO to make it work for the County. Then adopt the UDO and have a single planning and zoning authority and standard throughout the County.

Well, normally I’d disagree with a statement concerning consolidation, but for this and other counties adjoining the great state of Mecklenburg, I’d be on board with that idea. So long as that is ALL we were to consolidate.
