Friday Five: Big News From The Cabarrus Cheap Seats

July 20th, 2007 by Justin Thibault · 3 Comments

Wow, while I’ve been gone - so many things have happened!

I can’t leave you all alone now can I?

First, Dr. Winkler is retiring from Cabarrus County Schools. Not too many people know this; but he was the Superintendent when I was in High School.

Second, it’s time for candidates to file in the municipal elections. True to form, Concord is “Incumbentstan” - no challengers to the office holders. Looks like a repeat of the 2005 election. The contest in Kannapolis is looking lively and in Midland - we’ve got our first candidate website - Mike TallentAll good - and even lousy (like me) - Republicans should be helping out Mike.

Third, and you’re not going to get this from any other news outlet, Steve Little is retiring as Director of the County Parks and Recreation Department.  Londa Strong will be taking over as Director.

But, I know that I can’t go through the backlog of news and ignore my commentary on what everyone’s been talking about: every good blogger needs to be true to the buzz. So, I’m dedicating this week’s Friday Five to what everyone is visiting this site for: the “big story”

The Cabarrus Cheap Seats has made an endorsement for President!!!

Here are the five reasons you should support Jackie Broyles of Tennessee for President:

5. Jackie Broyles is old…like his body is shuttin’ down old. But, with old comes experience…

4. We’re scared…well, get scareder.

3. Are you a Thompson fan? Well, Fred Thompson likes drinking and smoking; but there are some bad things about Fred Thompson…

2. When we elect a President, we elect his wife. Let’s look at some spouses we don’t want in the White House…

1. Who wants to vote for someone who actually wants to be President? Jackie Broyles must be drafted. In Broyles’ own words: If nominated, I will not run. If elected, I will not serve.

Look, you can’t say that I don’t pay attention to my readers. On Tuesday, I say I’m coming back Friday, and my traffic jumps up by a factor of ten yesterday (Thursday). I can only deduce that this jump in traffic has to do with the 2008 Presidential Election - that it is a mere 474 days away - and that all of these people are visiting to find where I stand with the nominees for President. If I waited until the last minute…like an unthinkable 200 days before the election…I would lose all credibility with my readership.

So there you have it, I know why you’ve come to this site today; and I hope you’re not disappointed. After viewing these videos, I’m sure you’ll realize that Mr. Broyles is the right man for the job in ‘08!

See y’all Monday!

    Wow, Thanks Justin!

I have been searching for a candidate, the current GOP slate seems like a repeat of 1996.

Jackie Broyles for President — Better than Billary! I can dig it.

[...] I’d wanted to do this when I got back from my recent hiatus for the Friday Five. Then again, it was more fun messing with y’all two weeks ago with my “big news” story. Anyhow, you probably will find this too sappy, sanctimonious, silly, and never visit here again. Then again, you might find it pretty cool. [...]
