Spirited Discussion About Life in Cabarrus County, North Carolina

Last Night’s Cabarrus BOC Meeting: Open Thread

I couldn’t make last night’s Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners meeting; but Eric Deines of the Independent Tribune did.  Of course, the jail was cussed and discussed.  The article was off on two respects:  first, they weren’t debating the annex and second, “Cabarrus” doesn’t have two “bs”.  It seems as though our friendly, local, media-conglomorate-owned paper might be going back to its betypoed ways of yore.

There were other things on the agenda:

  • The BOC recognized some folks who are retiring, including Steve Little of Parks and Recreation.  I’ve worked with Steve on the Cabarrus Parks & Recreation Commission (I’m currently the Chair) since 2003.  He’ll be missed.
  • The BOC recognized the Odyssey of the Mind students.
  • The BOC did something that will affect your wallet.  The moved the revaluation date to Jan 1, 2008 (from 2012) and shorted the revaluation cycle to 4 years.  You heard it here first folks.
  • Installment Financing Contracts for new schools were discussed, there was even a public hearing
  • The NCRC TIF Project list was discussed
  • New Park Land from the W.W. Flowe Trust

All of these things happened, and was a second article dedicated to one of them?  Nope.  But, who wasn’t there was covered.

Let me know your thoughts on any, many, or all of these.
