The following is a statement from the Cabarrus GOP regarding the recent arrest of Commissioner Coy Privette:![]()

Citizens of Cabarrus County:
As a County and as a Party, we are dealing with the heartbreaking developments regarding Commissioner Coy Privette and the charges against him. Mr. Privette has been one of the defining faces of local politics for decades, and these allegations come as a shock to us all. Accordingly, our prayers and thoughts are with the Privette family during this time of crisis.
The members of the Cabarrus County Republican Party have met and discussed Mr. Privette’s situation at length. Clearly, we do not condone the alleged behavior, and if there proves to be merit to the charges, we will deal with the situation accordingly. At the same time, we would be remiss not to recognize that there is a criminal justice system in place, and that Commissioner Privette has not been convicted of anything to date.
As this situation develops, the Cabarrus County Republican Party will certainly keep the County and our members apprised of any decisions made or positions taken in dealing with this difficult time.
Sincerely,
Christopher McCartan
Chairman, Cabarrus County Republican Party
