Well, it is finally over. Jim Black has been convicted and sentenced in both Federal and North Carolina Courts and is in the back of the bus headed for Pennsylvania and the Federal Pokey.
While no one knows exactly how much damage the Decker/Black conspiracy did to the state of North Carolina, it is very clear that the peoples trust in their elected officials is all but in ruins.
When we KNOW that our state is up for sale to the highest bidder, even the most optimistic are left in dismay. Furthermore, when our remaining officials do nothing to curtail further actions like those committed by Prisoner Black, it is all the more difficult to find a reason to pull ones self out of bed on election day and head to the polls.
But we must…

Don’t forget to tell folks that Black admitted today that he got $500,000 from Don Beason, a prominent lobbyist and Republican and a former top aide to two Republican governors. Just to say that corruption knows no party boundaries, just like sex scandals don’t
The only way to get rid of corruption in politics is to get publicly financed parties and elections, which I’m sure some people on here won’t like to hear.

Yes, and because we have car accidents - we should ban all private autos and force everyone to ride the bus.
I, for one, am willing to tolerate an occasional corruption scandal in exchange for liberty.

We (Non-Liberals) are all aware that no party lines exist when it comes to scandals of any kind. All men are fallible. It’s just shocking to see any Dem admit that anyone wearing his particular jersy did anything wrong. I figured you’d be saying what a media hatchet job this was.

Aaron,
You must not be aware of the many actions of Democrats (especially “liberal” ones) to get Jim Black to resign. Just 2 examples: the famous jimblackmustgo.com website was run by Democratic consultant Joe Sinsheimer and many progressives on BlueNC.com have always been pushing for Black’s resignation.
Justin,
“Yes, and because we have car accidents - we should ban all private autos and force everyone to ride the bus.”
The problem is that for while now we have had a pile-up of car wrecks instead of a “few accidents” and traffic pretty much has come to a complete stop.
Corporations and the very wealthy buy legislation and/or have been asked to pretty much write the legislation themselves (e.g. the Bush “Energy Policy”).
I’m glad you’re all for our “liberty”, but right now regular folks hardly have the liberty anymore to have much legislation influence.
The only way to really preserve our liberty is to get the influence of big money out of politics.

As an American engineer, I’m skeptical when someone tells me that there’s one way to do something. But, I’ll humor you for a minute here.
Please describe this system you’re talking about. What would the restrictions be? What would be the benefits for “regular folks”? How many state-financed parties would there be in it?
I’m sure since this is the “one and only way” to save Truth, Justice, and the American Way that you have a plan.

Wow, this must be a really elaborate plan seeing that it’s taking like a week to come up with it.
