When it comes to attempted jail compromises in the past, I’ve been right; but judging from this bit in the Indepedent Tribune - I might be wrong about a recent prediction of failure:
Commissioners want to tighten the screws on a proposed compromise for the county’s downtown jail project that provides two thirds of the beds originally included in the project.
The proposal from the plaintiffs engaged in a lawsuit over the project cuts two stories from a 480-bed housing unit that abuts a residential, historical neighborhood. And it replaces a laundry and loading dock planned for the east side of the project with a 96-bed annex, reducing the number of inmate beds in the large housing unit to 288.
There’s still a long way from where we are to this compromise - what do you all think?

OK, first, Sheriff Riley got it right when he said “it’s about delays.” The figures don’t lie and we are overcrowded daily.
Secondly, what are they going to do with the current jail? Surely they can renovate it, make it a smaller area for pretrial detainees and overnight holds and still have a few beds left over. Have you heard anything about their plans for the existing jail?

Aaron - I know there are plans for the old jail: I just don’t remember what.
