Part of the reason that I switched to Wordpress from Blogger was better control of comments. Just for a little background, when I was back at Blogger I had to approve every comment because one person would spend their whole making slanderous comments about elected officials. That person now runs their own blog that nobody reads, and has subseqently been allowed to comment on this blog but chooses to rant on their own misbegotten corner of the blogosphere. Well, now I have a new commenter that’s operating from a similar, twisted mental state. What’s strange is that this individual is making slanderous comments about someone who IS DEAD, and the messages are too disgusting to share in a forum like this. I tried to contact them via e-mail; but was unable to because they lied about their e-mail. So, this is a message for this sick, sad individual:

Dear “back in time”,

I’m sure that you’re unaware; but North Carolina Law prohibits making false and slanderous comments about people in the political arena (living or dead) and even worse when doing so anonymously. I doubt that law enforcement will be visiting your home this weekend; but I have contacted your ISP. You may not know this; but everyone who visits this site (including those who leave comments) has their IP address tracked for occasions just like this. I’m sure that your ISP will weigh the pittance that you’re paying them for Internet access against the new legal liability that you’re presenting to them.

Also, I’ve noticed that these comments came in during business hours. I’m sure that if you’re making these disgusting comments from a place of business they may want to revisit how willing they are to offer you access to the Internet. I certainly would if you worked for me.

I do what I can do foster a spirited, informative, and robust debate on this site. I work hard and go out of my way to offer this as a forum for everyone to talk about what’s going on in our community. However, I cannot publish the comments you made as they were slanderous and, quite frankly, disgusting and beyond the pale. Assaulting someone’s character after they’ve passed away and commenting on how God has sent them to Hell is outside of my comprehension.

I sincerely hope that you seek professional help and I’ll pray for your sick, sad soul.
