Coy Privette

Seriously, even though it took Cabarrus County Commissioner Coy Privette a while to decide to resign - he did the right thing. Or, at least he’s announcing an intent to do the right thing. Here’s more:

“It has been very important to me that the citizens who elected me have a strong voice to speak for them,” Privette read from a statement, “and that my successor be someone who will have the courage to speak out even when he or she may be in the minority on a particular subject. Once these matters are resolved, I will submit an official letter of resignation and its effective date.”

It may be naive; but I believe the man and, in the best interests of the County and the Party, look forward to casting my vote as a Cabarrus County Republican Executive Board member for whomever will be the catalyst for this resignation.

This of course, is a Cabarrus County parade, but I find it amazing that Mr. Privette has prefaced his resignation by insinuating that he plans to play a part in choosing his successor.

Maybe, I have misunderstood or Mr. Privette was misquoted, but just how often do you quit a job and tell your boss (the citizens in this case) who your replacement will be? Audacious!

    Mark - Elections have consequences.

People should pay closer attention to the records of their officials, because this hubris isn’t outside the behavior he’s shown in the past.

Good god if that isn’t one of the most accurate depictions of Mr. Privette ever written…

I’m going to write a bit more on this Monday - there have been some recent revelations that complicate the sentiment reflected in this post.

[...] Last Monday, - I’d thought that it might have been part of some deal. I knew that Chris had kept lines of communication open with Coy. That’s why I posted my Thanks Coy message. I was out-of-town and out-of-touch and wanted to be clear that I would support whatever it took to get this apparent deal moving forward. [...]
