Last Monday, Coy Privette said he would resign if his house sells and he could pick his replacement. The Party disagreed [CLICK HERE FOR THE LATEST SYNOPSIS FROM THE CHARLOTTE OBSERVER]

Here’s the statement from the Chair of the Cabarrus County Republican Party:

September 21, 2007

Since Coy Privette announced his intention to resign on Monday, September 17, 2007, the Cabarrus County Republican Party has received countless inquiries as to who would be chosen to replace him.

As it stands, Mr. Privette has yet to resign his position, and as such, the County Party can and will take no action regarding naming a replacement.

North Carolina General Statute and the State Republican Party Plan of Organization give protocol as to filling vacancies. Further, the Cabarrus County Republican Party will implement fair and democratic processes in naming candidates upon the resignation of any of its elected officials. An obvious condition of these courses of action is that we have, in fact, a vacancy to fill. With regard to Mr. Privette’s seat on the Board of Commissioners, we do not.

We await Coy Privette’s resignation from the Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners so we can implement this democratic process, and so any and all candidates considering nomination are given ample opportunity to prepare.

Sincerely,

Christopher McCartan
Chairman, Cabarrus County Republican Party

I’ve got a feeling that this circus is rolling out of town pretty quickly.

[...] Coy’s plan back-fired. Chris McCartan and the local party refused to meet Privette’s demands. North Carolina Law doesn’t allow for selecting a successor until there is a vacancy. Chairman McCartan released a statement closing the door to Coy Privette’s line of negotiations - leaving Coy with this public statement of his intent to resign. [...]
