In an interview this week with Hugh Fisher of the Kannapolis Citizen, Coy named former Cabarrus County Commissioner Robert Freeman as his choice as a replacement for the seat that he said he would relinquish following the sale of his house and the naming of a successor he deems suitable.

Earlier this year, Coy Privette was arrested and convicted of six counts of aiding and abetting prostitution. The State and Local GOP have both demanded his immediate and unconditional resignation.

Coy’s move to name Robert Freeman is different from a previous “mediation” plan to have a committee that would be named by the Cabarrus GOP Men’s Club Executive Board to interview candidates. Many questioned the GOP Mens Club’s role as a “mediator” given that Coy Privette holds the #2 position on the GOP Men’s Club Executive Board. His influence over the former leadership of the GOP Men’s Club Executive Board was obvious given that they gave all they could to his 2006 campaign while ignoring all other candidates. In addition to all of that, many feel that the last election of officers followed rules you might find in Cuba as they held secret meetings to alter the membership rules that they announced at the time of the election.

In spite of their past servility to Privette’s every command, the GOP Mens Club Executive Board was not called after Privette’s request to form a committee.

With every week, Coy has a new plan; but the County GOP leadership has been steadfast and clear: resign and then a replacement will be named. That process is in accordance with the spirit and letter of North Carolina Law [North Carolina General Statue 153A-27.1].

Since I’m on the County GOP Executive Board and the County AND State GOP Mens Club Executive Committees (Treasurer in both cases) - I thought it would be appropriate to skip Coy’s obstructionist committee idea and go straight to the people. I put up an article calling for the public to offer up names that I would submit to the County GOP Executive board following Privette’s resignation. So far, you’ve named three names and I did get a little ink in a local paper.

Apparently, while the rest of us are trying to maintain the integrity of the Board of Commissioner and the local Republican Party, Coy Privette continues to coerce others to participate in this spectacle: in an interview with News14 Carolina Privette baited the interviewer telling him that he’ll have “a comment you won’t forget” if the Board of Commissioners actually proceeds with censure.

Seriously, folks - how long are we going to have to tolerate this?
