Just so you know I’m not blowing smoke about changing the format - here’s a preview of the new layout.
I’d appreciate any comments or suggestions.

Not a huge fan of the font but the overall layout is excellent. I do love the fact that it displays properly both on my home and office computer. At work, the current site seems to get shifted and the right column is down a full page length. The V2.0 is perfect on both.

Very clean, easy to read. I need to park the skateboard and work on mine
It’s very hard to be online when it’s so beautiful out.

Thanks, guys.
A goal of mine is to make it possible for someone to pull up the site and see if there’s anything new to the user without even scrolling (in realistic resolutions): poll results, new comments, and new posts.
I’m probably going to eliminate even more from the sidebar (like categories).
Aaron - What specifically don’t you like about the font?

Oh, another fly in the ointment - Wordpress 2.5 is due out shortly

I’ve never been a fan of the Roman font. I’ve always thought it was a little too dramatic for my tastes. Kind of old world “hear ye hear ye” if you will.
I like the cleaner looking fonts like are on the existing site better. My son used to think the “t” was a backwards “j” when he was first learning his alphabet so maybe I’m just biased.

Aaron - so you like the current one better?
You have a point, though. That “theme” is popular for a number of reasons; but I haven’t touched because I was focused on functionality.

Justin,
Good work! I really like the layout of the new site. I kinda like the color scheme on this site thought. The color scheme on the other site makes it almost look like a newspaper website. The layout is much better though…
Keep up the good work. I really, really enjoy reading your blog…

Thanks, guys.
I’m going to incorporate these comments when I have to do the upgrade to 2.5. I’m hoping to roll this out first thing next week. I’ve got the following things to do:
- Fix Sidebar
- Fix Authors’ Pages
- Put together a solid sitemap page
I’m trying to do a “mullet” design: business in the front, party in the back. Clean front page and easy access to the mess behind it.
The point is to highlight the work that’s written by others and to make it very easy for people to see what’s new. Digging back through archives is going to be depreciated in the design…about 1% or so of visitors ever do that.
