Spirited Discussion About Life in Cabarrus County, North Carolina

Could this be the wave of the future?

Every day I scan all my favorite blogs. This one gets much more attention than most due to it’s lively discussions. More and more often I find myself surfing the blog search engines looking for anything that strikes me as interesting but I’ve begun to notice a trend. A trend that Justin, this blog’s proprietor, seems to be picking up on ahead of the crowd.

I too have a blog. It’s my corner of the web to rant and rave about whatever interests me. These day’s I run into people who give me their blog address instead of their e-mail address or phone number. The trend is growing and every day I see this manifest in the new blogs, the old and never updated blogs and the “open” blogs.

The “open” blog is becoming the BBS of the new millennium (That’s Bulletin Board Service for the non early 1990’s computer proficient)

But more over, it’s blogs like these that are becoming the cornerstone of the future of internet media. Justin, the all seeing all knowing technophile that he is has recently moved his “one man show” into this new arena. (I like to call him Carnac the Magnificent)

There’s a lot of reasons that this works so well. It keeps people who work far too many hours from having to bash their heads in to keep fresh content on their site and the hits coming. It makes it easier on daddy’s with little one’s to get a decent nights sleep and gives them time to change diapers in between CAD sketches or globe circling business adventures. Mostly however, it keeps things interesting and gives those wanna be journalists, opinionated folks and general cynics an outlet to vent our frustrations or just to get a little conversation going in between budget meetings. (thank the lord our IT department doesn’t monitor traffic like they used to)

The truth of it is that the one man show blogs are getting old. As they say, Opinions are like… well, you know; and there’s just too many of them out there to keep track of.
The open style like this one benefits more people in more ways. This is still the number one place I come for my Cabarrus related news and it will always be the place I come BEFORE my daily journey to the Tribune or Cabarrus Neighbors. However, it’s also become a place where folks can “sit a spell” or just see where the conversation goes.

For my money: If this is where online media is headed, can someone please press the accelerator a little harder!

Aaron - Thanks for you kind words.

The hypothesis is this: A multi-user, open blog can add a needed element to the discourse about life in a market the size of Cabarrus County.

Let’s see if it pans out. I’m optimistic right now.

Yeah, you are right, Aaron. I have considered making mine a community site for a few months now only because of how much time it takes up each day. I’m going to be starting graduate school in the summer and there is no way I will be able to keep up with that site by myself at that point. The number of hits have really been picking up lately and I don’t want to lose that momentum.
