Of course, Red State Update does the best synopsis of the Obama/Clinton Debate.
I’m moving some of the comments about those running (Obama) and those not (me) here from the McCrory thread.
Also, give us your thoughts on a runoff. The most likely scenarios from the current poll - McCrory vs. Smith. It’s hard enough to determine who is a likely primary voter…who would show up at a runoff?

When you only fight the fights you can win and quit fighting the fights that need winning, you have no chance of true victory - just tolerable compromise.
Wow… That’s a quote that needs to be engraven above the front door of every government office in the nation!

Thats a beautiful quote but it fails to acknowledge the fact that compromise is a victory when you compare it to a loss. In my opinion compromise, while not a total victory, is always better that a total loss.

Coy Privitte is his own worst enemy. You blog just made that fact available for all to see. I admire your zeal for politics and your willingness to put your shoulder to the grindstone for your candidates, perhaps you should consider running for office yourself.

I want someone in Raleigh who will work hard and fight the tough battles. My preference is Orr, but as I have already stated; when the time comes I will perform my party duty and vote for the Republican candidate.

Caleb - This whole time, I’ve only been trying to get a little something of substance. Naturally, I’d vote for McCrory over Perdue or Moore; but what about his ideas, his management philosophy, etc. makes it so that I can argue to others that “he’s the best”
As for not getting votes in the primary, if you look at your beloved poll numbers - he hasn’t gotten close to hitting the magic 40% level needed to avoid a runoff. I can’t see any of the others saying “Ah, shucks, Pat - you take it” even if he comes in at 39.999%. It’s been pretty much conceded by you and Steve that Orr and McCrory are in different leagues when it comes to what people say they vote on (experience, intelligence, issues, etc.).
So, Caleb & Steve - McCrory vs. Smith, let’s hear it.

Ooh, that’s an interesting question and something I hadn’t yet thought of.
It would be rather nifty to watch a runoff between those two…

Justin:
I honestly don’t know who’d I’d pick at this point in a runoff. Fred Smith was my favorite early, but I’m still technically undecided between the two. Also, I can’t think of anything right now because Barack Obama just spoke on campus, and my friends drug me to it. I have never heard anyone propose more spending at one time in my life. I left before it was over because I was so mad. I’ll sit and ponder on your Smith v McCrory question, and get back to you when I regain my appetite.

Ewww, an Obama speech: Did his blithering fans faint out of sheer adoration or did he finally make the final transformation and walk into the crowd and start healing people?
You know, I’ve heard that if you touch the hem of his garmet you get the ability to lower gas prices by increasing taxes on oil companies.

yes, i witnessed two ladies pass out. Great time. A man came out to give the invocation and I asked everyone around me if it was Rev. Wright. They didn’t find it as funny as I did, and also frowned upon me when I asked if I was supposed to say “under god” during the pledge of allegiance at one of these events. Great times, Great times.

Surely a memorable experience.
How many times did he say the following:
“Change”
“Hope”
“I’ve never taken money from lobbyists”
“Bush is Bad”
and the timeless classic
“Rich People are _____”
Still, it’s good that you’re getting out and listening to what the other side is saying, even when it’s completely retarded!

Yes, change is completely retarded, because every thing’s going great in this country. We don’t need to change anything, no sireeee bob!
And hope… pfft..who needs hope when you have despair?

Everything is going so bad we need more government spending to get us out of this mess! Everyone line up outside, because the government is going to give you so much you’ll never believe people could survive in a world with out their big (taxing) brother! In Soviet America, Government lives you!

Nobody has made federal government bigger and nobody has spent more than the Republicans in the past 8 or even more years. Don’t just talk the talk, walk the walk.

Theirry - You have a point.
And it’s not just federal: Democrats at the local and state level have been working hard to keep government small. Take our governor, he’s making sure that e-mail servers aren’t bloated by ordering public records destroyed in defiance of the onerous and wasteful Public Records law. He’s also saving bandwidth by taking away the searchability of the Board of Elections website for voter records; but replacing it with a $25 CD that will be inaccurate on arrival. That way, only his rich contributors and subservient media will have access to the information.
Also, Democrats in the legislature have been saving taxpayers money by filing incomplete reports - let’s call it “paperwork reduction”. Checks and balances? The “good ol’ boy” network is keeping them in check and making sure everything is running smoothly.
Yes, let’s take this success and make it national!

If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it a million times. I can Change my TV, I can Hope I’ll win the lottery (if I actually played) but I don’t want a political machine that’s based on two of the most obtuse words in the English Language.
And for that matter: I like my gun(s) and my religion and I don’t cling to them because I’m downtrodden or upset with Washington. I cling to them because I actually like them…

Have I been asleep at the wheel, or has the poll on county commissioners gone up dramatically recently? Where did all of the Joy Lane supporters come from?
16 Justin Thibault // Apr 19, 2008 at 9:10 pm
Caleb - Either her mailers were working where she said she was opposed to school board taxation authority (along with all of the candidates and sitting commissioners). Or one of her fans found a vulnerability in the polling system.
This started Thursday. She didn’t have one vote at 10AM and at 10:30AM she had like 20. I adjusted it back because 20 people hadn’t even visited in that timeframe. My money is on someone having gamed the system.

I was wondering what was going on. I’ll be back in Concord starting May 7th. What groups are meeting around that time? I’d really like to come to a Cabarrus county republican party or men’s group meeting while I’m at home to meet everyone that I’ve become so familiar with around here. Keep me posted!

Justin, bad people are bad people, regardless of party affiliation.
