As a rule, I do not comment on Blog sites; however, Justin’s site is an exception when it comes to offering factual information to the general public. He does his homework and obtains the facts not opinion or rumor. That said, I received Ms. Lane’s flyer today asking for my vote as she runs for county commissioner. I read the flyer thoroughly and also visited her website this evening. After meeting her through the printed flyer and her website, I truly felt that my next few comments were warranted as we near the primary and that my observations were important and should be noted. These next comments are based on my experience as an elected official for 14 years and my experience serving on a state board of county commissioners for the past three years. I would ask that Ms. Lane not take offense but understand my perspective.
It’s very easy for someone to criticize others when they are not in the “line of fire”. I feel her website comments about the bickering during meetings are unfair and petty. The majority of board members that are now serving, are civil, business minded, educated and have the county’s best interest in mind. While we don’t always see all issues in the same framework, we know how to conduct business, research agenda items and make very difficult decisions that are always guaranteed to not please everyone. As a board, we have spent many hours discussing goals for the county that relate to growth, education, business development and the general welfare of our citizens. Based on some of Ms. Lane’s comments relating to the county working with the cities, it is obvious she is not aware of the dispute between the county and Concord that lead to legal costs. It took one year to resolve that legal battle, amicably, without any more taxpayer monies paying legal fees. Two current commissioners and Concord’s council were responsible for the ultimate resolution occuring in 2005, and as a result, there is a good working relationship between Concord and the county today. Ms. Lane mentions a long term plan on her website. Again, I would ask that she discuss with the manager the long term plan that our board has created and the sustainability of our plan to address water issues, school construction and lack of state support for our roads. I could go on with the many accomplishments that have occured over the past 4 years, but that is not the real issue. I would ask that Ms. Lane do her homework, talk with the mayors of the cities and towns, the county manager and our finance manager. I think she would be surprised to see that we have made progress and will continue to do so. Her comments are an indication of ignorance and lack of research. Ms. Lane , please get all the facts concerning these issues, before you incorporate critical and negative wording in your campaign for commissioner. A factual positive campaign will go much further in the general public’s eye.

Joni, thank you.
I have tried very hard, and lost many hours of sleep over the past three years, as we were thrown a lot of lemons that we had to deal with, and try to turn them into lemonade. Hopefully, the county has seen my leadership on display through all of this, and will see through this facade that is being cast. I recall that there was not a peaceful transition of leadership after the 2004 election - we both were called names, slandered, and had our every motive questioned. Through it, we pushed on, and passed the most sweeping changes to our zoning laws and subdivision ordinances in over a generation; we took the necessary steps to relieve overcrowding in our jail that should have been addressed 5 years earlier, and we re-invigorated the public image of the Cabarrus Board of Commissioners from a board that was out of touch with what was truly going on in the community, to one that is noted now for its business-like approach to the county’s business.
No one will ever be able to take that away, no matter what they assert. I think the voters will reinforce that on Tuesday.

Author.Larry Burrage,
Joni Juba,and Bob Carruth,
I am glad to see the two of you embracing your accomplishments? While the Facade of county government is still not truthful or provides the facts on all issues involving them.Or Might I say That should involve them.? Do Both of you recall a closed session in the past 6 weeks regarding the Red Bridge pending lawsuit in Locust? It Is not the place to ridicule or try to denounce anyones’ ability to run for any office,Let alone Distribute among others for their mutilation.I do Hope Your statements are correct regarding our current QUOTE, EDUCATED BUSINESSMEN,and CIVIL MINDED SERVANTS. In All Honesty I think you should have blogged MS.LANE Personally, and threw away the literature.
Despite your Qualifications and notable service to our county ,The American way is a fair chance and opportunity for everyone, rich, poor Brilliant or Ignorant to seek any office.
4 Justin Thibault // May 3, 2008 at 10:39 pm
Larry -
A commissioner discussing pending litigation that’s being handled in closed session is unprofessional and possibly illegal. As a matter of fact, there’s been only one sitting commissioner who has done it, probably because he has a record of having a rather casual relationship with the law.
Asking a question of an incumbent about a sensitive legal matter tells me one of two things:
Let’s hope it’s the former and not the latter.
5 Bob Carruth // May 4, 2008 at 2:38 pm
Larry,
As for the Red Bridge matter, it is a complex issue. We are still in legal negotiations over the development, which unfortunately has indirectly led to a lawsuit being filed against the APFO that puts our adequacy contributions in jeopardy. I know you have been advocating for a 100% contribution from the builders in the community, but if we lose this suit, we lose a very valuable way to help pay for schools other than our citizens’ property taxes.
As for running for office, the only qualification for commissioner is filing the $112 fee. Getting into office is a matter of each of us presenting our credentials, philosophy, and vision for the future of the county. It also involves a great deal of thinking, research, and analysis of where we are at today, and how to we get to where we want to be.
I have commented to several folks that this year’s slate of GOP candidates has been one of the strongest slate of candidates from one end of the ballot in quite some time to run for commissioner. I admire anyone that takes on even running!

This comment is for Joy Lane.
Dear Ms. Lane,
Before I would listen to anything Commissioner Juba would advise I would take the advice of a group of convicts alot more accurate.
Let me put it to you this way, I’m sure there is a really good reason Commissioner Juba did not seek another term.
And if I placed my bets right,
its likely the same reason Mr. Privette is staying on as commissioner!
HAPPY BLOGGING JOY!
7 Maria Ray // May 7, 2008 at 8:33 pm
This comment is for Justin Thibault.
A commissioner who writes anonymous threat letters is just as unprofessional and this act is just as illegal ……not too mention downright criminal.
8 Justin Thibault // May 7, 2008 at 10:16 pm
Maria - Because you didn’t have the guts to offer real evidence or even name the commissioner you’re talking about - I changed the link to your site. I should just ban you altogether; but keep it up and see what happens to your vowels…for our own amusement.
All - Tony Hooker mentioned to me that I don’t give enough context. Here goes. Maria Ray conspired with Coy Privette and Harold Smith to fabricate a scandal that was proven untrue. The motivating factor - Maria’s husband once worked for Juba’s company.
9 Caleb Seamone // May 8, 2008 at 12:01 am
Name someone and take your chances with libel. If you’re going to sling mud, at least have a reason for it.
10 Maria Ray // May 8, 2008 at 8:05 am
MUD SLINGING? An anonymous no name , who dares to call it mudslinging.
When an anonymous “CRIMINAL THREAT LETTER” was sent. Oh no, that letter came from the same person who instigated the others. Who else would have cared? IF someone is IGNORANT it sure isn’t Ms. Lane, sounds like a real doe doe.
11 Maria Ray // May 8, 2008 at 8:12 am
Just to set the record straight Justin (again)
Joni and I were friends once upon a time, really even before I met my husband after all she’s the one that orchestrated our relationship. Wasn’t that lovely of her?
And my husband didn’t just work for Juba he once owned half of the building.
Have a great day JUSTIN DARLING!
xxxo
12 Justin Thibault // May 8, 2008 at 8:47 am
Maria - Who sent the letter?
Maria, name a name or shut up.
I’m not going to let this blog that I host become a sounding board for some kook with an axe to grind.
All - To provide even more context, if you’re wondering about the integrity of Mrs. Ray - she was the person behind all of the anonymous comments on my old Blogger site - you can read more about it here.
I’m allowing her to comment to demonstrate what kind of nuts you have to deal with when you serve in elected office. Aaron Sorkin skipped this part of the job when he made The American President and The West Wing.
13 Maria Ray // May 8, 2008 at 12:26 pm
My Justin, you doooo get rowdy when confronted.
You failed to mentioned there was a certain bunch participating anonymously in a blogging “SMEAR CAMPAIGN”against other commissioners and I wouldn’t be too certain if they hadn’t bashed several city council members too.
And it was a only a CERTAIN FEW that rose to the comments that were not known by anyone else….except me an one certain wasp.
“And as far as name a name or shut up?”
HERE IS AN OPEN INVITATION TO MEET ME FOR COFFEE, MY TREAT!
AND I WILL BRING THE EVIDENCE.
I MEAN ITS NO SECRET.
AFTER ALL I HAVE NOTHING TO HIDE.
14 Maria Ray // May 8, 2008 at 12:37 pm
Oh and one more thing, let me remind you,
someone doesn’t have to look too far up your comment slots to find a fictious name.
In the design world Jason, we have a certain name for people like you who hosts blog sites that are rigged.
HOSTESS WITH THE MOSTEST!
15 Justin Thibault // May 8, 2008 at 1:09 pm
Maria - I don’t understand why you can make a public accusation; but can’t provide evidence publicly. That’s always been your style. I guess that’s why the local media wrote your accusations off long ago and you were stuck running a hate blog that nobody read except to mock you.
As for the comments left in 2006 on my site under those strange name, they all came from a single computer: yours. I tracked them - it’s easier than you think; but not so easy that someone like you could do it.
I’m looking forward to the day when your behavior catches up with you.
16 Maria Ray // May 8, 2008 at 5:56 pm
Someone else’s behavior has a far better chance of catching up with them.
And besides I’m not the one to open a criminal investigation. Someone else would have to start that ball, I just have to hand over the paperwork and boy did they ever leave a trail. WHEW!
17 Maria Ray // May 8, 2008 at 6:15 pm
BELIEVE ME JUSTIN SOMEONE IS READING MY BLOG.
THE ANONYMOUS, CRIMINAL THREAT LETTER WAS MAILED TO INNOCENT PEOPLE.
(NOT ME) but, pertaining to get me under control.
* Seems to me the person sending hate mail to innocent people other than myself is displaying the same arrogant tactics on others.( Your blog publicly displays it for the whole world to see.) Sounds like this person has a poor self image and self esteem problem.
Other than that Justin, I guess your not wanting to see the evidence and ponder it over coffee, that’s too bad. (Don’t say I didn’t try.)
I think we all need to sit back and see how this one plays out. It should be fairly interesting.
ok Justin … back to you.
18 Maria Ray // May 8, 2008 at 6:23 pm
PS: BIRD DOG
I did NOT CONSPIRE with Coy Privette and Harold Smith.
I am an INDENDENT ACTIVIST. (lol)
I sure don’t need some older men to tell me what to do.
NOR DO I NEED SOME OLE GRANNY TRYING TO CONTROL ME.
GOT IT?!
(Justin your REALLY driving that Coy Privette Harold Smith thing into the ground)
19 Maria Ray // May 8, 2008 at 7:39 pm
AND ABOUT ALL THOSE RESPONSES YOU TRACED IN 2006.
Right back at you once again.
My relative is a computer guru right outside of DC and you don’t realize how much enjoyment you gave us with your little friends during that time. It was hysterically funny to see most of the ones caught at the end of my fishing line were sitting in POLITICAL OFFICE.
LOL
20 Caleb Seamone // May 8, 2008 at 8:05 pm
Mrs. Ray, I looked at your blog, and I have an idea for your next post. How about something pertaining to “anonymous cowards” or “criminal threat letters”. Why break with tradition? Can you write more articles saying that, please? I don’t think I’ve read that you’ve received such things. If you know who sent them, why not call them out?
21 Justin Thibault // May 8, 2008 at 8:33 pm
Caleb - She won’t offer evidence. She hasn’t offered a shred in the three years she’s been trying to sell this story. The local media consider her an unreliable source, because she’s a liar and a coward.
For instance, she says that she wasn’t working with Harold and Coy - well, read this and decide for yourself.
She’ll reply to this message with the usual tripe; but I’m done giving her the satisfaction. If you want to see her handiwork - just read this.
As a political consultant, Caleb, you’ll try to recruit businesspeople to run for office and many of them will turn you down. Why? Because, there are bitter losers like Mrs. Ray with nothing better to do than try to make others miserable to try to blame their pathetic existence on others rather than doing something about the glaring flaws in their own character.
22 Maria Ray // May 8, 2008 at 8:38 pm
LOL
23 Maria Ray // May 8, 2008 at 9:43 pm
Justin stop with the Caleb crap your making me laugh so hard that my side hurts.
Tell your fictious friend they would have been more believable if they used
the name MOBY DICK.
Sure no signs of Caleb anywhere else on your site or in your/mine directory of funny names.
GOOD JOB!
24 Caleb Seamone // May 8, 2008 at 10:03 pm
What? Do you think I’m a made up person? Are you in touch with reality at all? Check the website http://www.nccollegerepublicans.org, and go to LEADERSHIP, and you’ll see me. Are you serious? You’re running a blog that is bordering on libel and public defamation of character and you’re thinking I’m not a real person? Get a clue.
25 Caleb Seamone // May 8, 2008 at 10:05 pm
Take the comma off the end and the url will work, I’m sure that typo will make you question my existence further
26 Maria Ray // May 9, 2008 at 8:00 am
Well, Well now, My daughter is an officer at East Carolina College Republicans.
And has been in DC just recently for the leadership program. I’ll just have to ask her if she knows you. This should get even funnier.
I find it very hilarious that you sure haven’t commented on anything else on this blog. But, this?
And your talk of libel and slander reek of letters I have.
Have you lost any weight?
27 Maria Ray // May 9, 2008 at 8:05 am
If she doesn’t, I’m sure knows someone that would.
Thanks for starting us on a great new adventure. This should be absolutely hilarious!
“JUSTIN’S HONEST BLOG”
She speaks of a Caleb but, I seriously doubt its you. Caleb has alot on his plate and he sure wouldnt zero in on this mess.
Have a great day, idiot
28 Maria Ray // May 9, 2008 at 8:56 am
I know for sure after interning with 2 judges and one US senator, my daughter can help her poor ole mom out here in Cabarrus County.
Caleb Seamone exists, I will eat crow.
If he doesn’t, we’re going to throw this one on top of the pile with the other crap that’s been dished out.
AND LET EVERYONE KNOW WHO WAS BEHIND IT.
In other words
YOU’LL LOOK LIKE A HORSE’S BEHIND….ONCE AGAIN!
* maybe a comment from the NC college Republicans on how no one was a part of this site.
Should be sufficient enough. LOL
29 Maria Ray // May 9, 2008 at 9:04 am
So, you put Caleb in your blog. Can’t wait to see how this goes over.
30 Maria Ray // May 9, 2008 at 9:29 am
This is not the Caleb Seamone. He would have known who I was.
ARE YOU GUYS REALLY THAT DESPERATE?
31 Maria Ray // May 9, 2008 at 10:20 am
Caleb,(lol) I hope Kami drove carefully when you two were on your last field trip with Newt Gingrich. I heard it was lots of fun.
And please tell me about that snake! I heard it was hilarious!
32 Caleb Seamone // May 9, 2008 at 11:02 am
Kamden never told me her mom’s name. I’m the same Caleb. I was expecting a Huckabee, but I suppose thats her dad. Sorry for the mix-up. I am a real person though, got a little angry that you questioned that. I just talked to Kami yesterday actually, and I’m happy that shes graduating. I hope Durham works out for her or she finds some other job. Its really me, just had no idea who you were. I’ll give Kam a call and confirm this.
I have commented on this blog other places. I’ve even posted my own blog. I’m busy but I like to keep my foot in around Cabarrus County.
33 maria ray // May 9, 2008 at 12:35 pm
I find it hilarious that you would take sides with Joni Juba.
I remarried and tossed the Huckabee last name.
That is so funny, I had no idea you would get mixed up in this.
Joni Juba is the wife of my husband’s former partner.
Get Kamo to fill you in. She knows.
Kami always talked about Caleb. Just never knew your last name.
We received an awful BAD letter in the mail threatening to control me.
And when I saw Joni Juba going after poor Joy Lane. ( Alot of my neighbors in the neighborhood really like the woman. )I personally don’t know her but, for Juba to call her ignorant, I flew onto my Broom, swiftly. ha!
Sent me into spasms! I always take up for an underdog. And any time someone throws some ego binge on others (especially if I know them personally) I take up for the other person under seige. Especially if its a RAUNCHY republican going after some other Republican for no reason.
As you know I am a stout republican, Mother of REPULIKAM. ha!
I’m Harmless. But, evidently not to Joni Juba.
OK, on another note, what did you think about Justin Burr getting the house nomination from Stanly, is that not something?
34 Caleb Seamone // May 9, 2008 at 1:16 pm
I’m not taking any sides, just commenting here and there. I texted Kam earlier but I’m assuming shes still asleep, so I’ll hopefully get up with her soon.
35 Maria Ray // May 9, 2008 at 2:46 pm
I just talked to her. She is so wrapped up in graduating and giving me instructions. She has no time for my rif raf. She is consumed with apartment hunting.
No hard feelings Caleb.
After all you protected her from Newt. (THAT DIRTY OLE MAN)
Have a great weekend!
I will be in ECU country in the morning.
36 Aaron // May 10, 2008 at 9:38 am
Hey, Maria, at the risk of pissing Justin off, can you go dry out Marion and tell him to add his two cents to this thread. If we’re gonna have one nutcase we might as well invite the whole group!
Pour on the crazy!!!
