Spirited Discussion About Life in Cabarrus County, North Carolina

‘cuse wins 10th National Championship!!!!

Alright - so a northern university winning a championship in a sport that a lot of people’ve never seen before is less than ‘all things Cabarrus.’  However, in a year where everything seemed lined up for Duke to add a lacrosse trophy to its case in Cameron, I felt it acceptable to give a little run to Syracuse… even in the Carolinas.

SU beat Johns Hopkins this afternoon, 13-10, in an historic matchup of America’s first sport’s powerhouses.  Hop beat Duke in the semis, which carries with it a particular significance, as this was the year that all of the Duke kids got back from the NCAA because of the rape scandal.  Its line-up was loaded with 5th year seniors, who fought hard and stuck around for an extra year with the hopes of bringing the gold home for their school… which, coincidentally, treated them like criminals only two years ago.  Frankly, while it would have been storybook for the players to take home the title, justice was served by the fact that Duke won’t gain the spoils of a situation its administration handled so poorly.

Congrats to Syracuse!!!  And again, I know it’s not terribly relevant to most, but I also know that Aaron would go on a tirade if the Sooners brought home a BCS title…
