The View From the Cheap Seats is a blog about Cabarrus County, NC News and Politics. It started as a blog in Blogger in 2005 and was moved here in late 2006. In 2008, it became a community blog.

Who runs this thing?

Justin Thibault is the administrator of this blog. I started this blog to bring a little light to some issues that were affecting policy in Cabarrus County, and now it’s grown to include a number of voices - possibly yours. The operation of this site is moderated and paid for by me.

Really, who runs this thing?

For the sake of disclosure, I’m registered as a Republican (I’m on the County Executive Board and I’m the Treasurer of the local Republican Men’s Club) and I currently serve on the Cabarrus County Parks and Recreation Commission. In any political assessment with greater resolution, I’m considered Center-Right. Enough about me…

The goal of this blog isn’t my opinion; but rather that of people in the community.  It’s a different concept, really.

Why is this blog called “Cabarrus Cheap Seats”?

In all honesty, I came up with the name in a hurry to respond to some nonsense that had been spread by the Cabarrus Taxpayers’ Association when I started this blog in 2005.  They were a force then - they are a punchline now.

It comes from an exchange in the movie “The American President” [follow the link if you’re really interested]. I currentl don’t hold elected office. On this blog there’s criticism and praise of elected officials coming from me and commenters; but in the final analysis we sit in the Cheap Seats as we’ve gone through the trouble of putting our name on the ballot, campaigning for the vote from the people, and allowing our decisions and lives to go under the scrutiny reserved for those who serve in elected office.

I’m offended/hurt/going to sue/flabbergasted by something on this blog, I’m sure it’s untrue, etc.
