    The Unaffiliated Dilemma

    May 6th, 2008 · 4 Comments

On primary voting day, unaffiliated voters can vote, but they have to choose sides. Democrat OR republican, not democrat AND republican. It’s ironic and quite frankly odd to be unaffiliated and still be unable to choose candidates from both sides. It feels as if some of your rights are being taken away the moment you pick sides, because your available choices instantly become limited. What is holding back a combined primary ballot for unaffiliated voters? Politics? Maybe there’s a valid reason. Please enlighten me.

    Campus Security

One of the things I’ve been pondering is campus security. On a normal large college campus, you’ll find a dedicated police force who eat, sleep, and breathe campus security. You won’t find campus officers called to other parts of town. Their responsibility is the campus and its borders.

Campus police officers are real police officers, not rentals. Although nothing wrong with rentals :-)

I’m not just talking about security patrols and response. Campuses have dedicated security for individual buildings and facilities.

On most campuses, there are “emergency phones” everywhere, especially walking paths, parking decks, etc.

I’d like to hear more about Kannapolis’ plans for campus security. Looks like another public/private partnership with the campus is forthcoming.

Are there projections for new police officers? I bet we’ll need a new police station too. I don’t see much room to grow with the current building size.

    What do you think?
