    State Board of Ethics

    April 1st, 2008 · 10 Comments

A complaint against N.C. Sen. Fletcher Hartsell was filed with the State Board of Ethics, alleging that in a rezoning and forced-annexation case his roles as an elected official and as a lawyer for a developer and the Water and Sewer Authority of Cabarrus County created a conflict of interest.

How could any of us consider Fletcher Hartsell to have a conflict of interest in what his considers his job? Just because his law partner Jay White the Chairman who sits on the Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners. The same board Fletcher was the lawyer for until he resigned. Plus how could Fletcher ‘s job be a conflict of interest, when it’s his law firm has the job to legally represent the Town of Midland, the Town of Mt. Pleasant and the Town of Locust, as well as the Water and Sewer Authority of Cabarrus. Fletcher still has time to represent the county of Cabarrus in the meantime. How dare any of us question Fletcher about his job? He is working for us the citizens.

The answer is simple. It is a conflict of interest when one person has some much access to information. Remember that Fletcher on occasion has forgotten that he has authored Bills in the state senate that he would not even support. I feel that Fletcher has become too interested in doing many jobs verse the one job we need him to do for us.
